Tips On Taking Care of Your 1-Year-Old Baby Boy in 2023

As a parent, you want what’s best for your 1-year-old. Keeping him safe, happy, and healthy is all you have in mind and if you’re like most parents, you probably worry you’re doing it wrong. The reality is that you’re probably doing it very right. Taking care of your child in 2023 isn’t as hard as it might seem.

Encourage Your Baby’s Curiosity

Your baby’s curiosity will start to be piqued around the age of one and it’s important to foster that curiosity in safe and healthy ways. One of the easiest ways to do this is to spend time walking outside, talking aloud about the trees, the sky, the grass, insects, and anything else that you come across.

It’s also important to follow your son’s lead as he begins to explore the world. Does he show an interest in nature or does he seem to like music more? Play games together, cook together, and examine everything you come across to get a feel for what your child seems most drawn to.

Responding To Their Talking Attempts

The average child says a couple of words by the time they reach 15 months but can put together small sentences by the time they’re two years old. Typically, toddlers use gesturing and their own version of “sign language” to communicate with you, so it’s important that you pay attention.

For example, if your son isn’t feeling well, it may be because he has a stomach ache. If he’s whining, pay attention to whether he’s pointing to his stomach when you ask him what’s wrong. As you talk to your little one, use the correct terminology for things, encourage gesturing, and use singing or rhyming games to help foster better communication. In no time, you’ll be able to tell that your son has a tummy ache and subsequently provide him with the organic gripe water he needs to feel better.

Help Him Get Plenty of Restful Sleep

Your 1-year-old needs about 11-14 hours of sleep per day to thrive, including a couple of naps during the daytime. Setting a routine for your child is essential for ensuring he gets the sleep he needs. At the age of one, your son should still be sleeping in a secure crib with a small blanket or stuffed animal for comfort. Before naps or going to sleep at night, limit screen time for about an hour to help them wind down for sleeping. It may also help to use a baby sleep roll on oil to help your little one get the rest he needs.

Take Good Care of His Health

Your son needs proper healthcare to ensure his safety and happiness. At his 12-month visit, he should receive the MMR, Hepatitis A, and chickenpox vaccines. During flu season, he may also need a flu immunization. During this visit, your son’s pediatrician will also screen vision, hearing, and blood pressure, as well as check him for anemia. Finally, the doctor will measure your baby and weigh him to ensure his growth is where it is supposed to be. In addition to regular check-ups, you can help your son stay healthy with an immune booster for kids.

As a parent, you want your son to thrive. Proper physical, mental, and emotional development helps to ensure he does.
