Why You Need to Fix Your Sleep Cycle to Improve Overall Well Being

Sleep is essential for both the brain and the body’s rest. Having a good night’s sleep is one of the most effective ways to maintain your physical health and immune system in top shape.

Health problems such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and stroke, are only some of the diseases sleep deficiency can cause. That is why it is very important to keep your sleep cycle neat to improve overall well-being.

Stress Level Is Decreasing

Insufficient sleep can create extremely high levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, in the body. Too much cortisol can make you feel anxious and can affect your health.

But when you start going to bed earlier, you will be able to control the level of this hormone. Besides that, you will see that your quest for better sleep is coming to an end, as you will quickly notice improvement. When your stress level reduces and you realize that you are much better prepared for the daily challenges, you will feel as if you have recharged your batteries.

We Are More in Control of Our Emotions

When we don’t get enough sleep, our emotions become more unstable because they are harder to control. As a response, we become more irritable and easily get annoyed, angry, or sad.

Going to bed earlier also means getting up earlier, which is beneficial if we want to get more sunlight and serotonin to boost our mood.

Quality Sleep Is Essential, Especially When We Are Sick

You’ve done your body, i.e. its defensive system, a huge job by getting a decent night’s sleep. Lack of sleep lowers the barriers and cellular functions that contribute to maintaining strong immunity, thus helping you take proper care of your general health as well.

While we are asleep, our body produces more white blood cells and cytokines, which act as messengers of the immune system and help fight infections and diseases.

Quality sleep will double the antibodies in the body, which will also increase the immune system’s natural reactivity to antigens and raise awareness of the immunological memory. It will “remind” antibodies of antigens that they have previously met.

Our Body Is Getting Back in Shape

Sleep directly affects the hormones in your body that contribute to growth and development, but also the loss of muscle mass.

If you are trying to increase muscle mass, one of the most important hormones for you is the growth hormone (GH-Grow Hormone). GH, as its name suggests, directly affects the growth of muscle mass. It has been proven that sleep is closely related to the secretion of this hormone. In addition, another hormone, testosterone, is also linked to sleep and muscle development.

Men naturally produce more testosterone than women, and some studies have shown that men who sleep 5 hours or less reduce the secretion of these hormones, by as much as 10-15%.

While we are in a deep-sleep cycle, our bodies heal by creating growth hormones. This important action will ensure that we are in better shape for the next day.

Sleep Impacts Metabolic Processes

Your metabolism speeds up when you sleep, causing calories to be burned. In this context, several studies have found a correlation between obesity and sleep deprivation.

All of these researches show that less than eight hours of sleep during the night contributes to slowing down the metabolism.

Poor sleep is something that is caused by various wrong actions throughout the day. People consume food that is bad for their health, food that they should not eat, which makes them feel guilty and makes it difficult for them to go to sleep peacefully at night.

For the Body, Healthy and Long Enough Sleep Is Incomparable to Anything

It is known that sleep is something without which we can endure for the shortest time and remain functional, while without water or food we can go for a much longer time.

When we are without sleep for more than 20 hours, it begins with the gradual collapse of many functions in the body.

If you sleep for a short period of time because you are too busy and you think that sleep is just wasting your time, know that this is not the right mindset you should have and nothing should be an excuse for insufficient and poor quality sleep.

Experts recommend that you write down all of your daily activities and then cross out those that take up too much of your time. This will encourage you to take more time for sleeping. Remember that taking care of your sleep cycle is in your best interest, as it will enhance your general well-being and all other aspects of your life.
